What Is Cybersecurity?
When people ask the question, “What is cybersecurity?”, the answer might seem simple at first. But the more you learn about the field, the more you realize that cybersecurity is far more complex—and far more important—than most people imagine.
For many of us, our first exposure to cybersecurity came from movies and television. Growing up, I watched films like Hackers and shows like Mr. Robot. They portrayed cybersecurity as this world where a brilliant hacker could break into secret government systems within minutes while sitting in a dark room filled with glowing computer screens.
It looked exciting. It looked powerful. And to be honest, it looked pretty cool.
But just like the movies where the police somehow arrive at a crime scene within two minutes, these portrayals are designed for entertainment. The reality of cybersecurity is far different.
The more I learned about cybersecurity, the more I realized that hacking is only one small piece of a much larger and more complex field.
Cybersecurity is ultimately about protecting systems, data, and people in an increasingly digital world.
The Digital World We Live In
Today, nearly every aspect of our lives depends on technology.
